A Peek at the Week
This week we continued talking about positional words and also began learning about manners. We continued working on our holiday projects, along with a train positional place word project. We also added some snow to our bulletin board display by gluing cotton balls on.
Ruby the duck (a sticker picture) continues to visit some days (but not all, keeping us guessing when she will appear next). She likes alphabet letters, so each time she will be stuck on a different alphabet letter when we do our rapid naming.
Centers this week included: a holiday project, train project, play dough, coloring, train center, bulletin board decorating, stamping, and kitchen center.
Vocabulary this week focused on the following words: please, thank you, excuse me, you’re welcome, etc as well as in, out, on, under, beside/next to, under, on top, over, near, far, in front, behind, and up/down.
Physical Therapy
In PT group the children played with large shapes this week. The children went in and out of the shapes, moving their bodies in different ways. First they crawled through, and then they crawled backwards, then walked through without letting their hands touch the floor, etc. Everyone did great with this!

We will be having a small holiday “party” on Wednesday December 21. Our room parent will be making a simple treat, and we will be doing a special project after attending a holiday assembly.

A Peek at the Week
This week at school we learned about positional/place words. We did many activities involving these words; including putting stuffed bears around the classroom using the positional words. For example, we looked at a picture showing on top, and then put the bear on top of the bookshelf in the classroom. The students had fun finding silly places to put the bears using these place words.
We also met Ruby the duck (a sticker picture). She likes alphabet letters, so each day she will be stuck on a different alphabet letter when we do our rapid naming.
Centers this week included: a holiday project, a colored glue project, train center where we put the trains through the tunnel, over the bridge, under the bridge, etc. Coloring pictures of positional words was another center. Blocks with cars and trucks, journals and cutting centers were open this week as well.
Vocabulary this week focused on the following words: in, out, on, under, beside/next to, under, on top, over, near, far, in front, behind, and up/down.
Physical Therapy

A Peek at the Week
This week was a quick week. We talked about the upcoming holidays, and completed projects pertaining to the holidays. A special gift was sent home in your child’s backpack yesterday or today. Please no peeking until the holiday! : ) We made goopy gunk (what we call goop) this week. The children followed a recipe using glue, food coloring, water, and borax soap as ingredients.
On Wednesday we attended an assembly: Music Stories, a cultural program. Be sure to ask your child about it. On Wednesday we had a small holiday celebration where we danced and did various gross motor games and activities. Thanks to the room parents for their help with the snacks.
Centers this week included: lacing holiday cards, goop and play dough centers, train center, lego and kapla blocks, kitchen, coloring on our bellies, and various other project centers.

Due to the assembly on Wednesday, we did not have PT group this week. We look forward to seeing Renee in the New Year!

Does anyone have an old animal see ‘n say they could donate to the classroom? This would be beneficial for some of the children learning the sounds the animals make.
In January we will begin Scholastic’s Classroomscare Reading is Giving. We will be sending home slips of paper for you to fill out when you read books at home. After we read 100 books, Scholastic will donate books to needy children. Happy reading everyone!
We want to wish everyone a safe, fun, happy holiday season! We’ll see you all back on Tuesday January 3rd! Happy Holidays!

A Peek at the Week
This week at school we continued talking about furniture and utensils. We did a project where the children colored pictures of furniture including a bed, refrigerator, sink, etc. They then cut out these pictures and glued the pictures into the correct room of the house. These are on display on the classroom bulletin board. Utensils were put in the sensory table along with cornmeal, which the children scooped and poured. We began changing our seasonal bulletin board in the hallway by taking down the pumpkins and adding winter animals and birdhouses to the scene. The students traced a square and a triangle, cut them out, and then glued them together to make the birdhouse. Each day we continue to work on learning the names of colors. We also work on letter and number recognition through the “rapid naming” exercises. We also met Ruby the duck (a sticker picture). She likes alphabet letters, so each day she will be stuck on a different alphabet letter when we do our rapid naming. Centers this week included: a project coloring and gluing furniture into the proper rooms of the house, listening center with the story “Peanut butter and Jelly”, kitchen where the vocabulary words were emphasized, large floor puzzles: a train puzzle and Hey Diddle Diddle puzzle. Journals and cutting centers were open this week as well.
Vocabulary this week focused on the following words: couch, chair, table, desk, bed, dresser/bureau, refrigerator, oven/stove, and bookshelf.
Physical Therapy
This week the children played with foam balls and practiced with a partner. They rolled the ball between their legs and around their bodies. They worked on throwing and catching the ball as well.

This week at school we finished up our unit on farms by popping popcorn on the cob in the microwave and eating it for snack. We also began talking about furniture, and Thanksgiving. Next week we will continue talking about furniture and Thanksgiving and also discuss utensils as well. By having the dollhouse center open this week, we were given opportunities to use the vocabulary words for the week, which are listed below.
Centers this week included: Dollhouse, dry erase boards for drawing pictures, shelf toys, paper fun where the children could make their own creations by cutting, gluing, coloring, and drawing with various shapes and colors of paper, and coloring turkey pictures.
Vocabulary this week focused on the following words: Thanksgiving, turkey, bed, couch, table, chair, dresser/bureau, shelf, desk, and lamp.
Physical Therapy
Due to the half day on Weds, the PM class did not have PT group with Renee. There will be no PT group next week due to the half day again. We’ll see Renee again in December!

A Peek at the Week
This week we talked about Halloween/pumpkins as well as farms. During circle we played a game called “Pass the Pumpkin”. A pretend pumpkin was passed around the circle as we sang the following song: “Pass the pumpkin, pass the pumpkin, pass the pumpkin round to me. When it stops, I’ll take out something that begins with letter /P/” (to the tune of Clementine). The child then opened the pumpkin, took out a picture of an object that begins with the letter /P/, and we all practiced saying that word.
On Monday the students enjoyed participating in the Halloween Parade. It was fun seeing all of the costumes and crazy hats! On Tuesday the students went to an assembly about Rain Forests. An informational notice was sent home about this on Wednesday.
Centers this week included: shelf toys, waffle blocks with barns and farm animals, coloring, a pumpkin matching activity, journals, cutting, crazy hats for the Halloween parade, and magnetic pictures of animals on magnetic boards.
Vocabulary this week focused on the following words: pumpkin, pie, piano, pig, pencil, pillow, pear, pizza, pin, Jack-O-Lantern, farm, and common farm animals.

A Peek at the Week
This week we continued to learn about Fall through our circle time lessons and center activities. We made paper plate spider puppets this week which we sponge painted black, then added eyes, legs, and a handle. We used them to sing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “The Great Big Spider” during circle.
We also learned a song “Where is Pumpkin?” which we sang during circle. At the science table, we observed and compared different fall items, such as pumpkins, gourds, leaves, apples, and acorns. At the coloring center, we colored pictures of pumpkins and Jack-O-Lanterns. Other centers included: legos, journals, a pumpkin emotions matching/memory game, kitchen, Listening center listening to “5 Scary Monsters”.
In music this week we sang songs about Halloween such as “Guess What I Am” and “Pumpkin Tells”.
Vocabulary this week focused on the following words: Fall, Autumn, leaves, pumpkin, apple, acorn, and different signs of fall such as cold weather, wearing jackets, raking leaves.

Due to a crazy power failure, PT Group was not held this week. The children will participate again next week.

A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about Fall through our circle time lessons and center activities. Our class discussed the different signs of Fall; like weather changes, autumn foods, and activities that we can do during this season. Our centers helped us learn more about Fall. We painted apple trees using our hands and made paper plate pumpkins for our hallway bulletin board in the project center. We played two math games called Pumpkin Patch Math and Apple Orchard Math; we were able to pick the pumpkins and apples from the pumpkin patch and the apple tree. We had a chance to taste three different colored apples, red, yellow, and green, and choose our favorite one. They were very delicious! At the science table, we observed and compared different fall items, such as pumpkins, gourds, leaves, apples, and acorns. We spent time sorting leaves by color, type, and size. At the coloring center, we had a chance to imprint leaves by rubbing crayons over paper. The play dough center was lots of fun. We were able to play with orange play dough and could make fall shapes with it using cookie cutters. We learned a lot about Fall this week!

A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about the parts of our bodies. We spent time learning the names of the parts
of our bodies, and what those parts do for us. Our centers helped us learn more about the parts of
our bodies. We learned and played in the following centers: caring for dolls, listening to books on
tape, experimenting with the Touchy Feely Box, tracing our bodies, gluing the parts of the body together, playing Octopus Dominoes, and putting Mr. Potato Head’s body together. In the dolls center, we were able to help babies eat, get dressed, and play together. We listened to the books, My Body and The Kissing Hand, on tape, while looking at the books. We were able to feel and describe the many different objects in the Touchy Feely Box, without being able to look at the object! Tracing our bodies was lots of fun, and after tracing our bodies we had to draw our faces with all the right parts. We worked very hard coloring, cutting, and gluing together the parts of the body in the project center. Octopus Dominoes was a fun game to play. We had to match the right colors and numbers together to create the eight arms of the octopus. The center with Mr. Potato Head allowed us to put together a potato head body with whatever body parts we wanted to choose. We also read books about our bodies this week in school. My Five Senses, My Body, and My Body Belongs to Me are a few of those books. The Hokey Pokey and Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes are some of the songs we danced to this week. We also played the game Ms. Hughes Says using our bodies!
Vocabulary was focused on learning the parts of the body. Students worked on learning the following body parts: head, arms, legs, hands, feet, stomach, knees, elbows, fingers, toes, nose, eyes, mouth, and ears.
Physical Therapy
Renee had us using different parts of our bodies in PT Group this week. She gave us each a balloon to bounce in the air. We used our fingers, thumbs, palms, shoulders, heads, knees, and even elbows to bounce our balloons in the air. We found that certain parts of our bodies were harder to bounce a balloon in the air with than others. Ask me which body parts were easy or hard to use.

This week we learned about families. We talked about how families are the same and different, and most importantly, that people in a family love each other. We brought in pictures of our families and shared our family with our friends. We placed our family photos on our class tree for all to see. Our centers helped us learn more about families. We made a family of puppets to sing songs with, spent time in the kitchen and doll house centers, made books about Me and My Family, sorted different pets families may have by color and type, and even spent time washing babies using our water table. Our class sang songs using our puppets, about families. It was fun to learn about our families!
Vocabulary focused on the different members of families. Mother, father, sister, brother, and baby were the main focus of our vocabulary this week. During the time in our centers, we talked about grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family pets while we worked. Next week… we will learn about the parts of our bodies!
Physical Therapy
We had fun this week working with Renee. We learned how to use scooters. Renee had us walk forwards and backwards on our scooters. We even had to lie down on our stomachs
and use our hands to help us move. It was hard work,
but a lot of fun!
Music
Our first music class with Mrs. Chapman was on
Thursday. She came to see us in our room, where we sang songs that helped us learn the names of our new friends and the things that they like. We had fun singing with Mrs. Chapman.

We even learned new songs about our friends and ourselves this week, like” I am Special” and “If you Want to be a Friend”. During circle time we continued to learn our letters, numbers, and colors. We also spent some time learning about each other; favorite colors, things to do, and how we to be good friends. Our centers this week were painting, kitchen, blocks, look what I can do, games, and projects. The activities in these centers allowed us to share who we are with each other, like what we can do, and learn our classmates’ names, playing memory and Bingo with pictures. Some of the books that we read together are All By Myself and Just a Little Different by Mercer Mayer and Keisha Ann: That’s Who I Am by Laura Colker. It was a fun week learning about our new friends and ourselves!

Our class pets, the fire-belly toads, have returned to our classroom and they are hungry! We would like to have some families volunteer to purchase crickets, each week, for our frogs to eat. Please let us know if you and your child would like to donate somecrickets for class pets.

A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about our school and our new friends. We learned many new songs this week. Some songs help us greet each other, and other songs help us remember what to do during the day, like the “Clean Up Song”. We will spend more time next week practicing these songs, and will continue to learn about our new friends. During circle time we worked on learning our colors, numbers, and letters. We also learned about the different jobs of the classroom and even began to work in the classroom each day. We have also spent time in centers. The centers we worked in this week were painting, coloring, making projects, kitchen, shelf toys, legos, blocks, and puzzles. We were able to explore different centers throughout the week. We also spent some time looking at our class pets, fire-belly frogs, which were raised from tadpoles last year. It has been a wonderful, fun week in pre-school!
Vocabulary has been focused on learning the names of adults and children in the classroom, as well as the different activities and centers available to students. Children have been working on learning our schedule and routines. Ask your child who is in his/her class, and what his/her job was, and what he/ she did today!
Physical Therapy
We began working with Renee this week. Renee had us walking in and on lines, walking backwards, skipping, galloping, and even bear and crab walking! We did some of these things two times because they were so much fun. We had a great time working with Renee.

Please remember to pack only one snack and drink for your child. Make sure that it is a healthy snack and one that your child will eat. for our pre-school classes. We hope to have milk available to
purchase by the end of September. We will be sending
home information as soon as possible.

This week we learned about our school and our new friends. We learned many new songs this week. Some songs help us greet each other, and other songs help us remember what to do during the day, like the “Clean Up Song”. We will spend more time next week practicing these songs, and will continue to learn about our new friends. During circle time we worked on learning our colors, numbers, and letters. We also learned about the different jobs of the classroom and even began to work in the classroom each day. We have also spent time in centers. The centers we worked in this week were painting, coloring, making projects, kitchen, shelf toys, legos, blocks, and puzzles. We were able to explore different centers throughout the week. We also spent some time looking at our class pets, fire-belly frogs, which were raised from tadpoles last year. It has been a wonderful, fun week in pre-school!
Vocabulary has been focused on learning the names of adults and children in the classroom, as well as the different activities and centers available to students. Children have been working on learning our schedule and routines. Ask your child who is in his/her class, and what his/her job was, and what he/ she did today!
Physical Therapy
We began working with Renee this week. Renee had us walking in and on lines, walking backwards, skipping, galloping, and even bear and crab walking! We did some of these things two times because they were so much fun. We had a great time working with Renee.
Physical Therapy, or PT Group, with Renee will be
Wednesdays. Please wear sneakers and no dresses.
Please remember to pack only one snack and drink for your child. Make sure that it is a healthy snack and one that your child will eat. Due to the number of children in school with peanut allergies, we ask that your child bring a snack that does not contain peanuts. We are currently working with our cafeteria staff to get the milk program running
for our pre-school classes. We hope to have milk available to
purchase by the end of September. We will be sending
home information as soon as possible.
Extra! Extra!
We had our first practice fire drill this week. Our class did a
fabulous job getting outside quickly and quietly!
We had our pictures taken was on Wednesday, September 14th. Our class had the most wonderful smiles!
Your child may talk about a new student in our class who has a
cool set of wheels that she rides in. Jacqueline has recently
joined our afternoon class. We would like to give a warm
welcome to Jacqueline. Welcome Jacqueline!
Important Reminders:
§ Wear comfortable shoes every day for outside playtime and fire drills.
§ Check folders every
school day for important information.
§ Please send your child to school with any missing paperwork that was given to you on “Meet the Teacher” day.
§ We need a change of clothes at school for every child. Send a change of clothes in as soon as possible.
