A Peek at the Week
This week we talked about spring and what happens in the spring time. Our “Concepts of the Week” were “loud” and “quiet”. We practiced clapping loud and soft, stomping loud and soft, and singing loud and soft.
THE NEW PLAYGROUND IS HERE!: A BIG thanks to Mr. Cantwell from the morning class and to Mr. Beck and Mr. DiClemente from the afternoon class for their help with the installation. It was a great group effort, and the install got completed a day ahead of schedule! We have had an opportunity to play out on the new playscape this week and the kids LOVE it! The clover shaped sand table seems to be a big hit, as is the tire swing! I will be posting some photos of the outside fun on the website soon.
Centers this week: Project-sequencing the steps of sunflower growing; coloring-spring pictures; Cardboard brick block building; sensory table-playing with “gooey gunk”-cornstarch and water; Kitchen-pretend play; shelf toys-fine motor fun.
~Books and songs: Over In the Meadow, The Happy Bee; The Itsy Bitsy Spider.
~Vocabulary words: spring, weather, season, buds, sprout, rain, flowers.
Physical Therapy Group
In PT group the students moved to differently colored shapes on the floor. They practiced hopping to a square, skipping to a red shape, etc. Great for color and shape recognition as well as following directions. Please remember sneakers and no dresses on Wednesdays.
Important Notices
+ Kindergarten visitation/bus ride days are May 20 and May 21. If you already signed your child up and would like to attend the parent workshop also being held that day, you are welcome to come. However, since your child is already in the building for school that day and there is no paperwork needed for you to fill out, you do NOT have to attend this day. We will bring the kids on these days. Any questions, please let us know.
~TV Turn Off Week is here! Check out www.tvturnoff.org for more information. Your child can start anytime, even if it isn’t during this week-we will aware prizes to anyone who tries to do it, and even good effort will be rewarded. Please be sure to have your child color in a smiley face for each day they don’t watch TV and return the chart when they have finished the week. We hope to have 100% participation this year!
A Look Ahead…

Mrs. Maruschock’s Pre-K Classroom News April 9, 2009 Afternoon Edition
A Peek at the Week
This week we talked about spring and what happens in the spring time.
We also began using a program called “Second Steps Curriculum”. This program is used to teach social and emotional skills. We met Impulsive Puppy this week-he acts without thinking and doesn’t know the rules of how to act at school. So the students helped him learn how to have his eyes watching, ears listening, voice quiet, and body still. We look forward to more lessons with Impulsive Puppy on teaching empathy, emotion management and problem solving.
NEW PLAYGROUND IS COMING: On Tuesday the morning students and a few of the afternoon students participated in the ground breaking ceremony for the Pre-K playground. The children all did a great job-an article and photo was in the Middletown Press on Weds April 8th. We are VERY excited for our new playground, which will be installed over the April vacation! A BIG thanks to those of you who are volunteering with the install!
Centers this week: Project-making a paper kite-these are hanging up on our bulletin board; coloring-spring pictures while on our bellies on the floor; Lego block building; putting alphabet and number eggs in order on a strip on the floor; sensory table-matching plastic eggs in the table with paper shred; mat man-going through the steps of drawing a person.
~Books and songs: My Spring Robin
~Vocabulary words: spring, weather, season, buds, rain, flowers.
Physical Therapy Group
In PT group the students practiced with playground balls. Please remember sneakers and no dresses on Wednesdays.
Important Notices
+ Book orders are due by April 9-online and paper orders.
A Look Ahead…
