A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about manners, and how our manners can affect feelings. We talked about when to say please, thank you, you’re welcome, excuse me, no thank you, and sorry. We also talked about “I feel _____ when _____”. Some of the emotions/feelings discussed included: happy, sad, angry, excited, surprised, silly, tired and scared.
Centers: cutting and coloring a book about saying “Hi”, floor puzzles, train table, a holiday project, a new center called “balls and ramps”, and journals writing about “I feel ____ when _____”.
Books: Manners, and Elmo’s Good Manners.
Vocabulary words: see the words in italics above.
Physical Therapy Group
This week was lots of fun for everyone in PT group. The students were paired up, one being a reindeer, the other being Santa. Their job was to deliver “presents” (colored bean bags) to the houses (different colored hoops) by matching the correct colors while riding on scooter boards. Everyone had a great time and did great delivering presents!
Important Notices
* AHHCHOOO! We are working on reminding the students to sneeze and cough into their elbows. This is a great way to help prevent the spread of germs as we are in the cold/flu season!
*Reminder: Please call or email if your child is going to be absent.
A Look Ahead…
*The last week of December we will be talking about food/meals and holidays.
*RAFT update: All of our students are doing a GREAT job earning those tickets, and have been collecting them in their special envelopes in the classroom. The school store will be up and running shortly and the students will be able to trade in their tickets for prizes!
Extra! Extra!
*My email address is knagy@cromwellct.org
* Our website is: www.cromwellschools.org/ecs and click on ECS Pre-K program.
*Mittens, please! Sending your child to school with mittens instead of gloves is helpful to all of us. We are teaching self-help skills, helping your child to become as independent as possible. Mittens are the best option for this. Thanks for your help with this!
* We’re still in search of “BOONE-REWRITABLES” dry erase markers.

On Wednesday, October 31st the school is having a “kick-off” for the school’s annual reading incentive program (shhh…it’s a surprise). Unfortunately, this assembly is only being held in the morning, so the afternoon session will miss out on this event. You are welcome to attend this assembly with your child if you like. It begins 9:15 and is expected to last 15 minutes. There should be chairs set up in the back of the All Purpose Room for guests.

A Peek at the Week
This week we talked about DINOSAURS! The children had a great time learning about all the different types of dinosaurs, and thinking about the possibility of them living in our own back yards at one time. We looked at pictures of dinosaurs compared to other objects, such as a car and a house to compare the sizes of the dinosaurs. We learned that some dinosaurs were bigger than houses, while others were the size of cats.
Centers: sorting small dinosaurs by type and shape, coloring pictures of dinosaurs, building dinosaurs out of legos, drawing on the large chalkboard, and making dinosaurs out of Crayola’s model magic.
Books: The Dinosaur Who Lived in My Back Yard, Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, and A Wish for Dinosaur.
Vocabulary words: extinct, died, fossil, herbivore, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus rex, and lots of other dinosaur names were some of our vocab words this week.
Physical Therapy Group
Again this week the students pretended to be ice-skating in PT group. They used white pom poms as pretend snowballs, and threw them at each other to get that person “out”.
Important Reminders
~ Please send your child in with hat and mittens each day for outside playtime.
~ If your child is sick, he/she should be symptom free (vomit, fever and diarrhea) for 24 hours before returning to school. This will help to prevent the illnesses from being passed around!
~ The new milk program starts the week of Jan 29th. If you would like your child to continue or start getting milk, be sure to send in your sign up slip and money before then.
~ “Homework” reminder: We’re still waiting for a few snowflakes to fill up our bulletin board. If you are still working on yours, please finish as soon as possible…the other snowflakes are lonely!
A Look Ahead…
~ In January we will learn about winter, action words, and dinosaurs.

The students will have new goals to work toward once they have reached the gold goal. When your treasure map is complete, please send it back to school and your child will get a reading ribbon and his/her picture will be displayed in the front hallway.

January 11, 2007 Afternoon Edition
A Peek at the Week
This week we talked more about winter. We read the story The Biggest, Best Snowman and discussed the steps to making a snowman. Each student then made a “life size” snowman on white mural paper. The students were also able to paint a snowman using white paint on black paper on the painting easel.
Centers: kitchen, small wooden blocks, floor puzzles, coloring winter pictures, painting on the easel, and making snowmen.
Book: The Biggest, Best Snowman.
Vocabulary words: snowman, snowball, first, next, last, winter, cold, snow, rain, hat, mittens, scarf, boots, and snow pants were some of our vocab words this week.
Physical Therapy Group
The students pretended to be ice-skating this week in PT group.
~No school Monday Jan 15th.
A Look Ahead…
~ In January we will learn about winter, action words, and dinosaurs.
~ In February we will talk about Animals, Valentines’ Day, and Dental Health.
Extra! Extra!
~Schoolwide reading program update: You will be receiving a letter soon explaining the next phase of the reading program…GEMS! The students will have new goals to work toward once they have reached the gold goal (we have had a couple do so this week!) When your treasure map is complete, please send it back to school and your child will get a reading ribbon and his/her picture will be displayed in the front hallway.
~ With the new year, new goals! We’re working hard on getting everyone to put on their own coats and zip them up. Also, putting on hats and mittens independently is a goal for each child. These are GREAT things to practice each and every day at home!
