A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about furniture. We learned the words for items found in our homes and in our school, and learned what they can be used for. The children discovered a dining room table could be for eating, doing homework, or even folding laundry. We did a project cutting and gluing pictures of furniture onto a picture of a house.
Centers: Dollhouse with all the different pieces of furniture, kitchen where we discussed the different types of furniture, blocks where we built different types of furniture, coloring pictures of furniture, and puzzles.
Books: In a People House and The Napping House. Vocabulary words: chair, table, couch/sofa, bed, dresser, bureau, stove/oven, refrigerator, and bookshelf were some of our vocab words this week.
Physical Therapy Group
This week the students went through an obstacle course set up in an empty classroom. They crawled through a tunnel, jumped on a trampoline, walked up and down foam blocks, did a somersault or side rolling, hopped on circles, rolled over a “log”, and walked on a balance beam. Everyone worked really hard and had lots of fun doing this.
Important Reminders
~Please have your child wear sneakers and pants (no dresses) on Wednesdays.
~We have a student with a SEVERE NUT ALLERGY. ABSOLUTELY NO SNACKS CONTAINING NUT PRODUCTS ALLOWED.
A Look Ahead…
~ In December we will learn about Positional/Place words, Food and Meals, Holidays, and Manners/Feelings.
~ In December we will be sending home a sign-up for reading to the class starting in January.
Extra! Extra!
~ Did you order Flip and Learn: Writing letters from Scholastic Book Clubs? If so, we have something that was missing from your order which Scholastic just mailed to us. Please let us know and we’ll get it to you ASAP.
~Mud Puddle anyone? We have misplaced the Mud Puddle book and kit. Can you please check at home for it? Thanks so much!
~Schoolwide reading program update: We have had some students complete their bronze treasure maps! Congratulations to Michael and Patrick for all their great reading! Please continue to read for “treasures” with your child. When your treasure map is complete, please send it back to school and your child will get a reading ribbon and his/her picture will be displayed in the front hallway.
~THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! For all of my birthday treats! It was very thoughtful of all of you getting personal cards from the children!
~Can you please help? We need plastic spoons and napkins for our class supply.
~The Pre-K website is up and running! It still needs a little work, but at least it’s there! To view it, go to cromwellschools.org/ecs and click on ECS Pre-K program. You will find a link to this newsletter there. Thanks for your patience.
~Please feel free to call, email or send in a note if you have any questions/concerns.

November 9, 2006 Afternoon Edition
A Peek at the Week
This week we started learning about farms. We learned that we get milk from a cow, a baby cow is called a calf, and cows like to eat grass. We also learned that a baby pig is a piglet, a female pig is a sow and a male pig is called a boar and that pigs like to eat corn. Centers: goop with scissors. Goop is similar to silly putty…it is made from white glue, water, food coloring, and borax soap. A farm animal memory matching game, and our project was a farm animal counting book project. Shelf toys and a barn with animals were centers this week also. Books: “My Cow” and “My Pig” were books we looked at this week. Vocabulary words: cow, calf, milk, pail, pig, sow, boar, and piglet.
Physical Therapy Group
This week the students pretended they were trees with leaves or the wind blowing the leaves. They used colored scarves and the wind “blew” the scarves off of the tree. Everyone had lots of fun doing this.
Important Reminders
~Please have your child wear sneakers and pants (no dresses) on Wednesdays.
~ We go outside to play every day, weather permitting. Please be sure to send your child to school with a jacket. It may be warm when your child comes in to school, but the temperature can change quickly.
~We have a student with a SEVERE NUT ALLERGY. ABSOLUTELY NO SNACKS CONTAINING NUT PRODUCTS ALLOWED.
A Look Ahead…
~In November we will talk about Farms, Spiders, Furniture and Utensils.
~Parent conferences will be held November 13th and 15th. See you then!
~No PM Pre-K on Nov 13 and 15 due to parent conferences.
Extra! Extra!
~Scholastic ClassroomsCare reading program update: WE DID IT! We have now read 200 books and still counting! GREAT JOB!
