A Peek at the Week
This week we learned about pumpkins. We read stories about pumpkins and did activities involving pumpkins. We learned that if you put a face on a pumpkin it is called a jack-o-lantern.
Centers this week: pumpkin coloring activities, putting the steps of carving a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern in order from first to last, making pumpkin pies in the pretend play center, shelf toys, small wooden blocks, and a matching game with pictures of pumpkins and the corresponding number of seeds.
Vocabulary words: fall/autumn, pumpkins, leaves, apples, changing, weather and jack-o-lantern.
Books read: Clifford’s First Autumn, When Autumn Comes, and Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins.
Physical Therapy Group
Please have your child wear sneakers and pants (no dresses) on Wednesdays. This week the students used balloons to help learn more about body parts. They listened to Renee and bounced the balloon using the palm of their hand, back of their hand, fingers, shoulder, thumb, elbows, and knees.
Important Notices
AHHCHOOO! We are working on reminding the students to sneeze and cough into their elbows. This is a great way to help prevent the spread of germs as we approach the cold/flu season!
Reminder: your child needs to be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school after an illness, including vomiting and diarrhea.
A Look Ahead…
Next week will be more autumn fun. During the month of October our topics will be: self-care, body parts, pets, Autumn/Apples/Pumpkins. In November we will learn about farms and furniture and utensils.
Parent conferences are being held November 14 and 15. The finalized schedule will go home next week. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress so far this year.
Picture retake day is Nov 7th.
No PM class October 31st-reading kick-off day…Please see note on the back
Extra! Extra!
Thanks to Mrs. Zullo for making the great Blue’s Clues counting books. Also thanks for the very generous donation of books to our class library which she purchased from my wish list at the school’s book fair.

On Wednesday, October 31st the school is having a “kick-off” for the school’s annual reading incentive program (shhh…it’s a surprise). Unfortunately, this assembly is only being held in the morning, so the afternoon session will miss out on this event. You are welcome to attend this assembly with your child if you like. It begins 9:15 and is expected to last 15 minutes. There should be chairs set up in the back of the All Purpose Room for guests.
